Ezinthabeni is located on the road to the Drakensberg Gardens Hotel, approx.
30kms outside of the town of Underberg. It is uniquely positioned on a finger of
private land that extends right into the foothills of the majestic Southern
Drakensberg, with wonderful views over Lake Naverone & onto Garden Castle.
The cottage sits on a 10 acre smallholding, and is a rustic thatched home,
sleeping 12 people in total. The 4-bedroom house sleeps 10, and the 1-bedroom
cottage sleeps 2. The cottage is independent of the grid, running on a
combination of solar power for lighting, and gas for cooking & water heating.
Ezinthabeni owners and guests may use the cottage access pass to make use of
the nearby Drakensberg Gardens Hotel facilities. These include free access to
the swimming pools, a splash park, and the adventure park, as well as guest
rates for golf, putt putt, tennis, squash, bowls, & horse-riding– so there is always
something to do!
There is also access to fishing at nearby properties (permits required)
The cottage is superbly located to enjoy the picturesque berg walks, including
Sleeping Beauty Cave or the iconic Rhino Horn for the more experienced hikers.
The cottage is a shared ownership property, made up of shares within a close
corporation, and is run by a group of 7 owners. It was originally set up over 35
years ago and has been a long-running cottage syndicate due to the likeminded
approach of the owners. Decisions are taken as a group by consensus,
and all owners play their part in helping to make it a smooth-running property.
This includes helping with general maintenance on a manageable ad-hoc
basis, as well as an annual ‘work-party’ weekend, where all the owners come
together to tackle any larger maintenance projects for the year. Prospective
buyers will need to meet with the other owners ahead of a sale being agreed,
as the success of the property is based on mutual camaraderie and friendship
amongst the syndicate. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendships we forged during
our very happy 10 years at the cottage!

  • The weekends are divided annually, based
  • on requests from owners which are
  • accommodated where possible. You are
  • also able to swap weekends with another
  • owner by agreement. Only owners may
  • make use of the cottage (ie no renting out
  • of weeks, or guests at the cottage without
  • an owner present); however, children of
  • owners are entitled to make independent
  • use of the cottage.
